Agro Enterprice Development and Information Service (AgEDIS)

The Department of Agriculture has established the Agro Enterprise Development and Information Service (AgEDIS) as One stop shop under the Extension and Training Centre mainly to provide technical assistance in planning and implementation of agro enterprises in the Country.

Our mission

Promote Public and Private partnership for agro enterprises development for agricultural prosperity in Sri Lanka.

Our services & functions

i.    Collaborate actively with Individuals, Provincial Councils, NGOO, Business Community and other relevant organizations in Agro Enterprise Development.
ii.    Assist in establishing linkages among Producers, Processors, Dealers, Exporters and Government Officials.
iii.    Collect and information on Production, Processing, Marketing and Disseminating such information to clients rapidly.
iv.    Keep clients informed regularly on the service provided by the Department of Agriculture.
v.    Establish an up-to-date data base on commodity price in Sri Lanka and in other relevant countries.
vi.    Conducting training programmes on selected fields to promote agri business.

Major trust areas
Following areas have been identified as priority areas to be given technical as well as other assistance to establish enterprises.
i.   Agro processing & value addition.
ii. Pre & Post harvest losses prevention.
iii. Protected agriculture and production systems.
iv. Flowers and ornamental plants production promotion.
v.   Seed and planting materials production promotion.

Existing and potential agro based entrepreneurs or organizations who are seeking technical assistance and related information to improve their productivity and quality.
