Functions & objectives

The SEPC functions as a major advisory body, supporting the DOA and the Ministry of Agriculture Development and Agrarian Services, in formulating agricultural policies and planning, conducting socio economic research and agricultural policy analysis. The SEPC maintains a statistical unit to compile agricultural statistics and information. The centre coordinates the activities of the local and foreign funded projects of the DOA as well.

socio economic research and policy analysis are mainly concentrate on the adoption of farm mechanization, resource utilization, international trade, technology dissemination, food security and food consumption patterns. The centre contribute to streamline various research and development programs of the DOA through identifying and prioritizing research agenda and guiding policy makers in developing strategies for solving problems concerning food shortage, especially in the context of changes in government policies and changes in global and domestic economic environment. The centre investigate main socio economic problems, policy aspects and resource utilization in the food crops sector,In addition a comprehensive programme is carry out to build a database on costs and returns in the cultivation of all major food crops on district and seasonal basis.
