Location
The research field is situated at Gonawila in a coconut holding of approximately 35 ha on the right bank of the Maha Oya.

Achieve excellence through development of Horticultural Crops for prosperity of the nation.
Mission
Function as the regional Centre of Research and Development of sustainable and productive technologies for horticultural crops to ensure economic and social development of the farmers and stake holders.
Objectives
To introduce annual and semi perennial crops and evaluate them for crops their stability to coconut lands and to maintain selections.
To develop technologies in relation to food crops grown under coconut.
Efficient and effective methods of compost production and promotion of organic manure use under Integrated Plant Nutrition System and organic farming system.
To determine agricultural practices appropriate to soils such as latosols and regosols.
To cooperate with agricultural extension and training institutes in implementing their regional programmes.
