Hon. Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana, inaugurated the intensive vegetable production in Matale district with collaborative effort of the organizations and institutions under the purview of Ministry of Agriculture on 29^th of  January 2011.

It is decided to initiate this programme in the high potential area for vegetable production such as Kandy, Matale, and Nuwara Eliya districts. The main objective of the programme is that increasing the national vegetable production by promoting the small scale producers in addition to the major vegetable producers.

Necessary steps have been taken to implement an awareness campaign to knowledge the people using Mobile Agriculture Technology Unit of the Department of Agriculture and supply seed and planting material for subsidized price.
