Future Strategies
  1. Following activities have been planned under various subjects for the 2001-2004 period.
  2. Analysis of comparative advantage Sri Lanka has on local production, import and export of rice, potato, selected fruits, vegetables and pulses.
  3. Sensitivity analysis of possible policy recommendations, including price guarantee's, subsidies and tariffs on comparative advantage.
  4. Analysis of comparative advantage within Sri Lanka among regions and in different seasons for the above crops.
  5. Analysis of protectionist policies on rice, chilli,onion,potato,and pulses using techniques such as nominal protection coefficient,effective protection coefficient and consumer / producer surplus.
  6. Assessment of degree of adoption of various practices and their impact on environment.
  7. Study on availability and accessibility of agricultural inputs for paddy cultivation (Collaborator RRDI)
  8. Study on availability and accessibility of agricultural inputs for condiments cultivation (Collaborator FCRDI)
  9. Demand and supply estimation,projections and effect of factors related to demand and supply of rice. (Collaborator RRDI)
  10. Demand and supply estimation, projections and effect of factors related to demand and supply of condiments and pulses (FCRDI)
  11. Cost of cultivation study on paddy and selected major food crops.
  12. Study on effects of farm household members involvement in off- farm employment on adoption of technology and productivity in agriculture and on farm family income.
  13. Gender issues pertaining to farming and farm family decision making process.
  14. Impact of subsidies on technology adoption and productivity in the food crop sector.
  15. Forecasting of requirement and availability of rice,onion,potato,Chilli and pulses.
  16. Revision and updating of the work program in collaboration with all institutes and centres of DOA.
  17. In collaboration with all institutes / centres of DOA and other relevant agencies outside the DOA,collect the relevant agricultural statistics and compilation and maintenance of the database.
  18. Co-ordinate with the relevant institutes / centres of DOA on all matters related to special projects where central co-ordination is required.
