Medicinal Plant Garden, Ganewatte

Introduction
Ganewatta Medical Plant Garden is situated in the Northwestern Province about 15 miles away from Kurunegala. Being located in the intermediate Zone, it offers an ideal site for cultivating a large number of medicinal plants. The garden is 56 acres in extent. About half of the land is occupied by coconut cultivation. The medicinal plants grown are mostly arboreal. The comments plants are Nelli ,Manamal , Sandalwood , Tamarind and eth-demata .

Present Management
Ganewatta Medical Plant Garden has a work force of 09 Laborers headed by an Agriculture Instructor.

Present activities

1. Maintaining a germ plasm Collection of a large number of medicinal plants.
2. Collecting and selling medicinal plant products such as Nelli, Tamarind, Aralu and Vanilla .
3. Harvesting and selling coconut.
4. Providing educational facilities to students of native medicinal , school Children , NGO's and the general public.
5. Maintaining nurseries for propagation of medicinal plants.
