Extension and Training
Division
The Extension and Training Division implements an effective
agricultural extension programme for the food production system in collaboration
with other units of the Department of Agriculture (DOA) and the Provincial Agricultural
Systems. It is directly responsible for the agricultural extension in the Inter-provincial
areas. Training of farmers, entrepreneurs and extension staff are another vital
functions carried out by the division.
Nine schools of agriculture administered by the division
provide two year diploma level education to youth.
The division provides mass media support for extension
and training activities and for activities of other units and divisions of the
DOA.
The National Agricultural Production Programme (NAPP)
has boosted the funding for enhancing production under several major selected
crops. Activities under this programme are carried out in the Provincial and Inter-provincial
areas. The Mobile Agricultural Technical Support Service (MATSS) implemented under
the NAPP provides useful support for extension and training activities.
Extension services provide recommendations for field problems
and communicates with research on problems that need further investigation. The
continuous of research extension linkage and understanding has proved to be a
very beneficial two way communication process.
